During operation, the plug turns within the valve body to open or block flow through the valve. Depending on how the plug is oriented, it will allow for a full flow to be open or fully closed.
The jacket around the valve body helps to control process fluid temperature. When the process fluid is subject to solidification or high viscosity at lower temperatures, a heating medium circulates through the jacket and heats the valve along with its contents up to the desired temperature. The system also largely includes temperature sensors or gauges to control the optimal heating of, for example, hot oil in case cooling is done via oil either medium or fluid involved.
